CORE CLASSES

Master Classes
Three to four students share and observe each others' lessons, taught by a Master Teacher.

Group Classes

Master Teachers conduct Repertoire and Technique classes organized by instrument and playing level.

Enrichment Classes

Chamber Music with Goran Berg
Intermediate to advanced students will receive their music before the Workshop in order to explore the nuances of playing and communicating with their peers.  For violinists in Books 3 and above; violists and cellists in Book 2 and above. Enrollment in this class may be limited.  * see audition information below

Orchestra with Leo Kitajima
For violinists in Books 3 and above, and violists and cellists in Books 2 and above. Students play and listen as the various violin, viola, and cello parts come together under the creative and sometimes mercurial guidance of Leo Kitajima.

Fiddling, Jazz, Bluegrass, and Improv with Renata Bratt
Our 'fiddle' offerings have expanded to include a wide variety of styles, taught by one of the great fiddle teachers.  For all instruments.

Body Mapping with Cathy Allen
Body Mapping is an exploration of how we are constructed through drawing, coloring, looking at skeleton models, self-examination and movement.  We will apply that information to our playing to find how better balance and organization can help us find freedom and expression in making music.

Music & Movement and Music Appreciation with Christina Berg (ages 3-6)
Experience the fun of making music together and develop a sense of beat through singing songs, moving and dancing to music, and playing rhythm instruments.

Musicianship and Theater

Learn about the language of music (phrasing, articulation, tone, and style) through staging, lighting, movement and storytelling.  An interactive class in which every student is a collaborator in the creation of a theater piece that 'describes' a selected Suzuki song.

Sonata Class for Advanced Students
This new class, for instrumentalists in Books 4 and above, is a very particular kind of chamber music class: it focuses solely on cello and piano, or violin and piano, repertoire that Suzuki students are not often exposed to, but are an essential part of any violinist's or cellist's repertoire. The equal partnership between string player and pianist allows for conversation, compromise, exploration.  The goal of this class is about process rather than performance (although performance may be an option).  * see audition information below

Aspiring Twinklers Program
Please see the Policies page for more information.

Please note that classes are subject to change depending on enrollment.

Events

Student Honors Recital
*
Open to all instruments and levels, students submit applications (included in the Welcome Packet) that include a video performance of the song they would like to perform at the Recital.  Our selection process honors beautiful playing (beautiful technique, intonation, sound quality, etc.), regardless of the difficulty of the piece.

Parent & Teacher Talk by Caroline Fraser: The Joy of Music and Keeping it Alive
Known internationally for her insight and wisdom, veteran Suzuki Teacher Trainer Caroline Fraser will discuss how the Suzuki Philosophy applies to our continuing path as Suzuki parents and teachers.  Using video examples of lessons and practice sessions, Ms. Fraser will delve into such classic topics as What Teachers & Parents Need from Each Other; How Parent Roles Change as Children Mature; and All Children (Can) Learn.

This talk is invaluable and while we can't insist that parents attend, we can't recommend it more strongly, whether you are new to the Suzuki Method or are a 20-year veteran Suzuki parent or teacher!

Saturday, July 25, at 1-3:30 pm.  Free for attendees and their families, $20 admission for the general public.

* Auditions are not required for workshop attendees.
They are required for those auditioning for the Student Honors Recital and the Sonata Class.

They are recommended for those participating in Chamber Music, for placement purposes.
The same audition video may be used for all 3 events and programs.
