Experience

A typical day begins at 8:45 for sign in, and classes start at 9am. Schedules will always include master classes and repertoire and technique classes.

All classes are 50 minutes, allowing for ample travel time from classroom to classroom.

The full day workshop is from 9 am to 5 pm, but the exact length of the day will depend on the age of the student as well as instrument and playing level.

The class offerings are designed to provide a variety of experiences: students will have approximately 15-minute lessons in their master classes, as well as 50-minute group and fiddle classes.

More advanced students will have more playing time, including orchestra and chamber music, while younger students will participate in activities that allow for movement, creative play, and time away from their instruments.

General Information

Meals and snacks are not provided, so many families pack a brown bag or picnic lunch to enjoy in one of the campus courtyards.

Lunch will be followed by or accompanied by a daily treat:
the Student Honors Recital; a Guest Lecture; or an impromptu soccer game.

Enrollment

Parents can register through the Crowden Music Center by filling out the summer enrollment form.

Upon enrollment, families will receive a Welcome Packet including but not limited to:
  • an application to perform a solo in the Student Honors Recital or the advanced Sonata Class (video submissions must be received by June 15)
  • a request for information regarding the student's instrument, playing level, chamber music and orchestral experience
  • a repertoire list
  • tips on how to make the most of your Workshop experience

In late June or early July, you will receive any chamber music or orchestra music students will need to learn before the Workshop, as well as a tentative list of classes you are signed up for.

On the first day of the Workshop, students will receive a folder containing their daily schedules and room assignments, and will gather in the Auditorium to meet the faculty and staff before moving on to their first classes.
